For almost 25 years Big Breakfast Plus has been providing a cooked breakfast in central Swindon to those in need across the borough, and helping those who are without accommodation to engage with support services. We’re open from 7 – 9 am, 7 days a week throughout the year (except when Christmas Care is running), that’s over 7,000 breakfasts a year.
Provides the homeless of Swindon with a hot breakfast and access to support from other organisations
Big Breakfast Plus (formerly known as Broadgreen Breakfast Club) provides a cooked breakfast to the homeless in Swindon throughout the week, operating from a central location easily accessible to guests. This provides a safe place for outreach workers from partner agencies to give advice on issues such as housing, health, drugs and alcohol abuse, mental health and benefits. It also helps to provide a sense of dignity/normality and can often be the start in breaking the cycle of homelessness.
Why the community needs us
Big Breakfast Plus works in partnership with SBC and other voluntary organisations in the local area to support and improve the welfare of homeless adults. Working in collaboration is a key part of our strategy and we’re proud to have played a major role in re-launching HOSTs (Homeless Organisations Standing Together in Swindon). We provide the breakfast and an introduction to key workers who can signpost our guests to practical sources of help.
Our impact on the community
As a member of HOSTs and signatory to its data sharing protocol, we can monitor our guests’ progress towards being tenancy-ready and are contributing to the temporary winter hosing provision project based at Carfax St from January to March 2018.
