Our followers on social media may have seen the recent announcement about our move to The Haven. In this post we’d like to share a few details about the move, as well as answering some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about what this means for our service.

Following breakfast at St Luke’s Church Hall on Wednesday 9th January 2019, Big Breakfast Plus will relocate to new multi-agency hub The Haven on Queens Drive, Swindon, SN3 1AR.

From Thursday 10th  January 2019 breakfast will be served at The Haven with our usual team of staff and volunteers, between 7-9am, Monday to Sunday.

Big Breakfast Plus will continue to welcome anyone who needs our support, including rough sleepers, sofa surfers, homeless people in short term accommodation and those without access to cooking facilities or income to pay for food.

Guests will still be able to access support from partner agencies and we are looking forward to working collaboratively with other providers as more services and sessions are developed in the coming months. For information on future plans at The Haven, please visit Swindon Night Shelter.

Big Breakfast Plus plans to be based at The Haven until at least 2022.

We thank St Luke’s Church Hall which has provided a wonderful home to us for the last 14 years. And looking forward, we are excited for the opportunities of partnership working offering more services to all guests, and the opportunity to part of a truly integrated provision. Helping to create and support positive change in people’s lives.

Please see below for answers to some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about our move to The Haven.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where and what is The Haven?

The Haven is the name given to a new day centre for homeless adults in Swindon, which officially opened on Wednesday 2nd January 2019. It’s on Queens Drive, Swindon, SN3 1AR (next door to the Ambulance Station and opposite Burger King). The centre is managed by Swindon Night Shelter and is also the base for this year’s Temporary Winter Housing Provision (TWHP) run by Swindon Borough Council 7 days a week between 6.30pm – 7.30am until the end of March 2019.

Why is Big Breakfast Plus relocating to The Haven?

Along with a number of other charities and organisations, Big Breakfast Plus has long felt that a day centre is an essential approach to providing effective support for homeless adults (including rough sleepers). Big Breakfast Plus will be part of a multi-agency hub, with a collaborative approach to a shared goal and vision for supporting homeless people in Swindon.

By relocating to The Haven, Big Breakfast Plus will bridge the gap between short term accommodation and activities and support provided at the day centre managed by Swindon Night Shelter. For further information about Swindon Night Shelter’s opening times at The Haven and future plans, see Swindon Night Shelter’s website.

What time will breakfast be served at The Haven?

Breakfast at The Haven will be served between 7-9am Monday to Sunday. This will include a hot, freshly cooked breakfast with toast, cereal and unlimited refills of hot drinks.

Will the service offered by Big Breakfast Plus be different at The Haven?

The difference is that our guests will be able to stay on at The Haven after breakfast to sign up to and have even better access to a wide range of individual support sessions through the services provided by partner organisations being coordinated by Swindon Night Shelter.

It also means that food donations can be delivered directly to The Haven with more flexibility.

Will Big Breakfast Plus still accept food donations at The Haven?

Yes please! We will continue to welcome donations of breakfast food following our move to The Haven. As well as sundries including tomato/brown sauce, squash, long life fruit juice, salt and pepper, kitchen towel, foil, food wrap, cleaning products and bin bags.

Donations for Big Breakfast Plus can be delivered directly to The Haven, Queens Drive, Swindon, SN3 1AR at any time between 7am and 4pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 9am Saturday and Sunday.

All other donations for The Haven should be taken to Swindon Night Shelter’s warehouse at Unit 45, BSS House, Cheney Manor Industrial Estate SN2 2PJ 9am – 1pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Is Big Breakfast Plus still an independent charity?

Absolutely. Whilst we will be working collaboratively with other providers as part of the multi-agency hub at The Haven. Big Breakfast Plus remains entirely independent of other charities and organisations operating at the Haven.

As a registered charity, Big Breakfast Plus will continue to cover its own costs at The Haven (including staff costs), as well as operating and fundraising independently. Similarly, the charity will continue to recruit and support its own volunteers, as well as maintaining its own board of trustees.
